2011 UPSR result

What is so significant on this year's result? I had my UPSR result 23 years ago. The only thing I could remember was that it was so nervous waiting for it. I did not  get all 5As,  however after 23 years when I looked back sometimes, it was a blessing in disguised. I noticed that any failure will keep me going forward to be a better person while any triumph and winning will be a satisfaction of hard work in all of these years.

So for this year, the significant result was toward my younger cousins, they are 2 boys of my aunt and my uncle. The only concern I was on Math subject.. why? because I taught them in the last 2 years. It was one of my goal that I would teach someone to be better in their studies. So, historically the 2 boys were not A student for the Math subject, they were C student. After rigorious of training and effort that I put on them, alhamdullilah, they improved. Both of them are smart however why they kept getting C last time was because they keep doing the same mistake and that was in counting. They always did an incorrect counting. That's all. So by rectifying their mistake and trained them to put a lot of effort in it and the result was very satisfying to me. One scored A and another scored B for their Math. I am proud for the 2 boys because they willing to work hard the best that they could and they achieve what they deserve. To me,not only was a proud moment but in fact a very satisfied one because seeing their achievement and help them to improve better than before.

Bear in mind, I am not a teacher by profession. However to see someone better and improved in their life, I could say was one of my worthy goal this year to accomplish. Sometimes we do not need to help people that is far away from us, look around in our family first and thats where we can start to make this world a better place.

1st Time as Toastmasters of the Day (TMOD) in a special meeting

Date: July 21st 2011
Time: 12.00-1.30pm
Venue:Tiger Toastmasters Club, KL
_______________________________________________________________

That day was a special meeting because a L2 manager and 10 Resource Managers had joined in the meeting to see our club activitiies.  Eventhough its not my 1st time to be TMOD in our club meeting but it was my first time to be the TMOD infront of many managers. I did felt very nervous but at the same time excited to give the best  "shot" of my presentation.

When I  volunteered the role at first place was because I had the intent of  getting out of my comfort zone, hence I was raising a"bar" in my life and third thing was definitely gaining the experience of  the preparation and feeling while conducting the event.  I was very pleased that by the end of the meeting everyone enjoyed very much  and we had make an impact to the leadership team.

After I had gone through the experience, I felt that my confidence grew bigger and I felt that I want to do some more "uncomfortable" roles perhaps next time. Its a feeling of higher satisfaction when we had accomplish something uncomfortable at the first place. It was fear but when we faced the fear, the feeling of satisfaction are much overwhelmed compare to the feeling of fear that we had before.

I did felt the adrenalin rush at  that moment. The main thing was once we have prepare the best we could be, the rest will be history and it will be our sweetest memory.

Till next time.. I signed off for now...

Completed 1st Journey in Toastmasters-Accomplished as a Competent Communicator and Leader

Date: May 11th 2011
Time: 12:30-1:30pm
Venue:Toastmasters Club.
_______________________________________________________________

At last, on that day, I felt delighted and contented that I have completed my first journey in Toastmasters. I managed to complete both books which consist of 10 speeches and 10 projects within a year plus  after I joined the club.

It was not an easy task but with a good time management and determination, it was possible to complete both books within a year. I also had the opportunity to record my 10th speech and when I compare with my 1st speech, I was satisfied when I saw my development within a year.

By accomplishing the first part, I have received from Toasmasters International Organisation 2 certificates and  the organisation had sent a letter of notification to my supervisor that I have completed both books. From my 10 speeches, I managed to win 4 times as a best speaker. I do feel  rewarding and  appreciated in both occasions.

Eventhough I have completed the first stage, there are more to come in the advance manual. The journey are more challenging and I will need to select 2 books to start  of as an Advance Communicator. In leadership area, I will need to accomplish my term as Vice President of Membership in 1 year to serve my club and its members. It is one of the criteria to achieve Leadership Bronze status.

Balance is the word of the game. In this game I need to balance between my work and also decdication to self improvement.  Toastmasters are  part of  "work in progress " type of self  development. It has benefited me a lot and I will strive the best to complete my 2nd journey towards ACB & ALB status. My feeling now? a mix of excited and anxious at the same time. Insyallah , in Allah's will, everything will be fine.

1st Time As a Contestant in a Table Topic Contest

Date: Feb 16th 2011
Time: 12:30-1.30pm

Venue:Tiger Toastmasters Club
Contest Title: Table Topic Club Contest.
____________________________________________________________

It was my first attempt to compete in the club level for table topic. For many of you who do not know what is table topic, its actually an impromptu speaking session. The  topic  was given on the spot when its our turn by a TopicMaster and we can talk about anything about the topic, around the topic or outside of the topic. The challenge is actually to think on our feet and to give the speech in 2 minutes time.

This year, it was my first time participated in the contest. It was a good experience and exposure to me because I was challenging myself to overcome the fear of talking in front of other people in an impromptu manner. Eventhough I did not win, but the important thing was the lesson I got and the experience I felt at that time.

The topic was that "What is customer service and what do you think of a quality customer service ? ". The topic to me was not that difficult, however I think, I was not humorous compare to the person that has won. To be humorous in an impromptu speech to me was not that easy. I have only 2 minutes to think and to deliver and it was challenging. However, some other people can deliver it well and easily came out with an idea to entertain other people. I believe its a skill that can be developed overtime and practice everytime.

Second lesson I got was that, if I be the first participants, its better because I can see how the rest of other participant do and I can compare with how I did so that I can improve. I guessed next time, I will exchange with the first contestant.

How did I feel through out the competition? Eventhough I have been through many table topic session before, I still felt the fear  at that time. The thoughts that "what am I supposed to do if I cannot answer or give a good idea ?" , "what if I suddenly speechless?, wouldn't it embarassed me???, "what if.. what if.. and what if" .. It was really a mental fearing session to me at that time, but as I learned to face the fear before, its the same on this too , despite of fear...just do it...

So what's next for me? I have one more year to prepare and practice for the next table topic contest. I may need to buy a video cam to capture my own speech and see which part I can improve in the next contest or perhaps try to participate other type of contest such as humorous speech or international speech contest... We'll see what install for me next time.. so till then, thats all for now...

1st time as an Area Judge for P5 Toastmasters Club Competition

Date: Saturday , 4th Sept 2010
Time: 10am-1.00pm

Contest Title: Area P5 Toastmasters Club Evaluation and  Humorous Speech   Contest 2010
Role Player: Area P5 Judge
_____________________________________________________________

On 4th Sept 2010, Tiger Toastmasters Club had organised an Area P5 Toastmasters Club Evaluation and Humorous Speech Contest. Congratulations to Imad for taking up the role as Organising Chair and I must say job well done !! .

It was my first time to be the judge for the Area P5 competition. I was selected by the Chief Judge, Ismail Omar from TMIKL club. I was the only person from Tiger Toastmasters  chosen and the other 6 judges came from  different clubs. I guess after I had volunteer myself on becoming the judge for other clubs, that's why I was given another opportunity to be as an Area Judge after that. It pays to become volunteer sometime because the valuable thing was that I could get an opportunity to experience other type of role players.

The experiences definitely different between a judge and evaluator role like in our normal club meetings. The  first lesson that I got was what we think sometimes not definitly correct compare to the results of the competition winners. I guess it will take many skills to know and evaluate participants in a contest. Second lesson I learned was that, it did helps me to understand better what kind of criteria a judge will evaluate  a participant. With this knowledge I could prepare myself better if next time I wanted to compete in a speech contest. Third lessons I learned was improving on my networking skills with other people outside my company. Managed to exchange our experiences and ideas on skills in leadership and membership.

The lesson I got was indeed a valuable  one, eventhough I was not paid to be the judges. In this case, the profit was not in term of monetary but more into the experiences I received and I am truly grateful for it.

Evaluation Contest Chairperson for Toastmasters Club Speech Contest 2010

Date: 11th August 2010
Time: 12:00-2pm
________________________________________________________________

It was the 1st day of Ramadan for year 2010 and it was the 1st time I became the Evaluation Chairperson for a Club Speech Contest. What a historic day! There were  many things to learn eventhough I have completed my speech #7. I decided to take up the role when  Jimmy  asked whether I could do it. I was afraid at the beginning but then in my mind, I was asking myself "Why not?!" This is a splendid opportunity to learn the skills of becoming a host.

It was totally a  different  experience for me. There were still "butterflies and elephants"  lingering in my stomach eventhough it was not my first time speaking in front of the public. I guess that is normal whenever we are in front of public. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the contest yesterday and kudos to Jimmy for organising such a fabulous event.

Cuti-Cuti Malaysia 2011- Kuching, Sarawak

Date:  March 2011- 3days 2 nights
Location: Kuching, Sarawak Malaysia.

This year my budget for travelling was allocated only for local travel. This time around I visited the land of the hornbill. It was my first time visit and I stayed for 3 days 2 nights. As usual for all my flights and accomodation, I handle it myself (without asking for agent) . One of the factor I decided to visit Kuching was because when I browse through one of the local airlines (NOT airasia of course) was because it got a very good promotion to go to Kuching. I grabbbed 2 seats. One was for my mom.

We stayed in Four Points by Sheraton group inclusive breakfast. The hotel was nearby to the airport (5 minits drive) however, it was kind of far to the city centre for first timer visitor. To me, its fine since the hotel has a shuttle to go to city centre. One thing that I found out if taking a taxi in Kuching was that every taxi will start with RM10, so its kind of expensive compare in KL. This got to do with their association request. I was satisfied with the hotel room but the buffet spread was not that impressive to me. The location of the swimming pool also was not that good in my point of view because it was next to the restaurant.

The first day we visited the "Sarawak Cultural Village" in the morning. The place was fascinating because  we managed to see different type of houses and also an hour of cultural show. Majority of Kuching people are Iban, however I could see that they have more multicultural races compare to us in Peninsular. They are indeed 1 Malaysia first. My 60++ year old mum was more excited than me , she was able to go up and down all the 10 type of houses without even feeling tired. My "Super"Mom ..

We had  lunch in a seafood restaurant on the way back. Very fresh all the fish and the food was delicious. We had around 6 dishes and the total bill was cheap if we compare to Peninsular price. In the evening we took  the boat ride tour of the Sarawak River. It was a 2 hour boat ride. The boat was big and comfortable. They even served us water and some cakes.  It was before the sunset. We could see the sunset while touring. Amazing view. During the tour we got to see many types of scenary and also historical places from the boat.

The second day, I decided to rent a car since the city are not that big and easy to drive. There was an offer at that time from Hertz that any visitor could get a 50% discount rental in EastCoast if travel around that time. So I grabbed the offer and the car that we took was Hyundai Matic. We went for a shopping at the side of the riverfront. We bought mostly the sarawak batik and sourveniours. After that we had a tour around the city. We also had gone to the the Pasar Satok to buy the Sarawak  Terubuk Masin. Its easy to bring inside the plane because they already packed nicely for us.

To me, Kuching is one of the city that I don't mind to go back to have a short vacation. The lives and the scenary are different from Peninsular. Probably next time around I will try to visit other places in Sarawak e.g Miri or Bintulu.
For now I signed off.....

2010-AFF Suzuki Cup-Malaysia won at last !!!!

Malaysia winning team-2010 Suzuki cup
For 14 years we never win any football cup match in Asean level. I guess this year's winning is the beginning of the new era (hopefully) for our country football standard. Most of the team players were below 25 years of age. They are very young, energetic and "hungry" for a winning I guess. That's a good attitude to have when they want to win it so bad. They lost to Indonesia at the beginning of the round, but at final they beat them... So how was that possible???  When I watched them played in the final game, I could see the spirit in each of them that they want to win it so badly and that's why they give us a terrific show. When  people saw the "determination spirit" in each of them, that's where the differences were and eventually they won the cup.

So after this what's next for our football team? I hope this would not be a one time off again like what our badminton team last time. Before 1992, they have not win the Thomas cup for 25 years. Now its year 2011, nearly 20 years, we did not win another Thomas cup ever since 1992. So are we supposed to wait 25 years every time we want to win something at the International Level? We were so complacent with the winning of 1992, but after that we did not go far. Unlike the Indonesia and Chinese team. Indonesia lost to us on that 1992 year, but after that they rose to win the cup the following years, not once, but  they did it again.. and again and again. So are we going to be complacent every time we won something at International level?? Does the "backup plan" actually works in our National Sports Program???  I wished that this time no more complacent attitude from the backup plan.
